SPORTSMED·SA Hospital and Day Surgery is a private, purpose built facility at Stepney. The hospital contains four operating suites with first class instruments and equipment, including sophisticated endoscopic and computer assisted surgery technology. As a dedicated orthopaedic facility, SPORTSMED·SA Hospital and Day Surgery is the largest of its type in Australia. Over 7,000 surgical procedures are performed each year on patients of all ages, including Olympians, international and national athletes. Procedures vary from arthroscopic reconstruction of joints, to complex joint replacement surgery

The Hospital has 45 individual private rooms, each with an ensuite. (There are no shared rooms.) A 4-bed ‘high dependency’ area enables nursing staff to care for patients with complex medical conditions or those who have undergone complicated surgery such as major joint replacements. The hospital has its own kitchen which provides fresh and appetising a'la carte meals under the direction of our Head Chef.

Television, Foxtel and newspapers are provided for each room. Parking for visitors is available on site and under the hospital. An ambulance and patient drop off and pick up bay is located adjacent to our front door.

Hospital Accreditation

SPORTSMED·SA Day Surgery and Hospital has been continuously accredited or certified since 1991. It is currently certified and operates a Quality Management System which complies with the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 incorporating the Core Standards for Safety and Quality in Healthcare.

We are consistently commended on our ‘outcome monitoring programme’ which audits patient outcomes and complications. The results of these are reviewed regularly at audit meetings attended by the surgeons, research fellows and staff. Outcomes are also evaluated against international benchmarks, and where appropriate, changes are made to protocols or procedures.

Regular patient satisfaction surveys continue to demonstrate a high level of patient satisfaction, with frequent comments about the care and dedication provided by our nursing and support staff.
