Since 1989, SPORTSMED·SA's clinic has enjoyed rapid growth.
In 1990, SPORTSMED·SA Orthopaedic Division opened Australia's first freestanding Day Surgery and in 1998 the facility was extended by opening Australia's first purpose-built, private Orthopaedic Hospital.
SPORTSMED·SA is now owned by 23 practitioners, while the hospital is owned by 10 orthopaedic surgeons. Since opening, three additional Adelaide metropolitan branches have been established and a further 35 non-partner practitioners have joined the clinic. These, combined with management, administration and nursing staff, bring the total number of SPORTSMED·SA employees to more than 250.
The most recent developments at SPORTSMED·SA are the addition of branches in Blackwood and Darwin. A physiotherapist, podiatrist and massage therapist are availalbe at Blackwood for consultations. Our Darwin Branch provides orthopaedic consultations, with surgery either at SPORTSMED·SA Hospital in Stepney or at Darwin Private Hospital, if required.
