An Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) is a health professional who specialises in food and nutrition. An APD has the clinical training to translate scientific information into practical dietary advice tailored to suit lifestyle and needs.
Clients of APDs are of varying ages and have diverse reasons for their consultation. An APD will work with an individual or a family to improve general health, establish healthy eating practices, to help a patient gain or lose weight or to manage a specific medical complaint such as:
- Diabetes – Type 1 and 2.
- High cholesterol.
- Gastrointestinal disorders.
- Osteoporosis.
- Fussy eating.
- Allergies/intolerance.
- Iron deficiency.
A consultation involves collecting the relevant information to make a thorough nutrition assessment. This is followed by the provision of realistic practical advice and written information e.g. personalised meal plan, to meet your individual goals and maximize your health and performance.
