Making and Attending an Appointment
The orthopaedic surgeons consult from our Stepney, Morphett Vale, Henley Beach and Darwin branches. To make an orthopaedic appointment please telephone the relevant branch.
A referral is necessary for an appointment, and is required by Medicare or your private health fund for a rebate. A GP referral is valid for 12 months, and a specialist for 3 months.
For all appointments you will need:
- Your Medicare card.
- Private health fund details.
- The referral from your GP or specialist.
- Claim number (for workers’ compensation, Third Party and public liability patients).
- DVA card (if applicable).
- A list of your current medications.
- A list of any known allergies.
- PATS travel forms for authorisation by your surgeon (for country patients).

Things to Discuss with your Surgeon
To ensure you receive the best possible care we require details of your medical history, and all medications you are taking. Your surgeon will conduct an examination and discuss your condition and treatment options. Further tests, X-rays, or sessions with a physiotherapist may be necessary. If surgery is required, this will be explained fully, together with any risks associated with surgical procedures. Subsequent rehabilitation, particularly at home, requires the full cooperation and commitment of the patient.
Research and Training
A focus on high quality patient care has contributed to our active involvement in orthopaedic research. Many SPORTSMED·SA surgeons have worked on international design teams to develop new surgical procedures, implants and tools.
SPORTSMED·SA is unique in providing a Fellowship Programme which attracts orthopaedic surgeons from all over the world, to participate in further learning and research. Click here for more information on our Fellowship Programme.
As of 2008 SPORTSMED·SA is one of the first private clinics to train orthopaedic surgeons from the public sector.
