Duties and Responsibilities
The Fellow’s duties and responsibilities are both clinical and research based. The clinical responsibility is for patient assessment (under supervision) both pre and post operative. This includes meticulous record keeping and medical reports, to the same high standard as that of the supervisors. Some operative experience will be incorporated, mainly assisting, but with some limited first hand experience to become proficient in certain procedures, such as ACL reconstruction (again under supervision). This component is dependent on the expertise and rate of progress in surgical techniques of the fellow. On-call responsibility will be to SPORTSMED·SA only.
The research component will be clearly defined. This may be clinical and/or in basic sciences, with the fellow having some input into the preferred areas of research. A fellow will meet with his/her supervisors monthly to review the progress of research.
Access to the University of Adelaide Medical Library (4 km from the clinic) and the Library of the Royal Adelaide Hospital will be arranged.
Fellows are expected to have reached a stage in their training where they have good surgical skills, especially in knee arthroscopy. The SPORTSMED·SA clinic is entirely a Private Practice and the extent of operating available to fellows is necessarily limited and will depend entirely on their skills. Inexperienced fellows expecting to perform a large surgical component should not apply for this fellowship.

Medical Board Registration
The Fellow must qualify for registration with the Medical Board of South Australia for either full or limited registration. Automatic registration is only provided for medical degrees from Australia and New Zealand. Registration for other overseas fellows is available from the Medical Board of South Australia under extended limited registration, as this fellowship is recognised by the Board for training by overseas post graduate students. It is suggested that intending applicants provide all the details to the clinic so that assistance can be given with the application at an early date. The pre-registration process and application process with the Medical Board of SA only applies to successful candidates. Please refer to the Medical Board of SA area on our website for further information and links.
