Diet and Nutrition

At SPORTSMED·SA we have an experienced Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD) and Sports Dietitian available for consultation at our Stepney Healthcare Hub.

An APD is a health professional who specialises in food and nutrition and is qualified to work in areas that require nutritional assessment and counselling.

An APD has the clinical training through university to translate scientific information into practical dietary advice tailored to suit an individual’s lifestyle, goals and needs.

Our Dietitian Olivia Warnes works with individuals of varying ages (excluding paediatrics). Olivia specialises in the following areas of dietetic practice:

  • Weight management – reducing or gaining weight
  • Eating disorders
  • Sports nutrition

A Sports Dietitian is a specialised type of dietitian. Nutrition needs vary considerably from athlete to athlete and sport to sport. Alterations to training schedules or competition regimens results in a change in nutritional requirements.

  • Improving overall training diet through maximising energy levels
  • Immune function and performance
  • Increasing lean muscle mass
  • Reducing body fat
  • Preparing for competition/races
  • Optimising recovery
  • Travel nutrition and supplementation.

Olivia has also consulted with some of Australia’s elite athletes at the Australian Institute of Sport and a range of individuals and sporting teams, including the Adelaide Football Club and South Australian Cricket Association (SACA).

Olivia currently consults with the following athletes and organisations:

  • Australian Track Cycling Program
  • South Australian Institute of Sport – Cycling, Rowing, Kayak, Diving and Volleyball
