sportsmed is thrilled to form a new major healthcare partnership with the Adelaide University Soccer Club (AUSC) for the 2018 season.

Spearheaded by sportsmed Orthopaedic Surgeon and former AUSC star Dr Shahram Shahrokhi, the prestigious club will receive dedicated medical support and priority access to our range of services.

The medical support and priority appointment service extends to players at all ages and grades of competition from juniors and amateurs right through to State League 2.

Players, trainers and club medical staff on game day can also contact an on-call sportsmed practitioner to receive expert advice and address any urgent concerns. Any injuries sustained on matchday that require immediate attention, can also be treated at our weekend casualty clinic at the Stepney Healthcare Hub.

Dr Shahrokhi, who played at AUSC for several years while completing his orthopaedic training, was delighted to provide his former club with preventative care, treatment and rehabilitation services, along with education that would help keep the players fit and healthy on the pitch.

“By offering dedicated medical support and expert advice to the club it helps ensures the players minimise their risk of injury so they can maximise their performance and continue to play at their best for years to come,” he said.

“When injury strikes, sportsmed also has services beyond preventative care and injury prevention strategies to treat players and assist with their recovery and return to the pitch.

“Club trainers and medical staff can also feel confident with sportsmed’s assistance to implement injury prevention strategies on the training ground and make the appropriate decisions and interventions about a player’s wellbeing when injury occurs.”

Services available to AUSC include orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapy, doctors, podiatry, massage, exercise physiology, diet and nutrition, and psychology.

All services have practitioners with extensive experience in assisting sports clubs at all levels of competition.

AUSC Chairperson Bing Yap is excited to join forces with another proud, local establishment with a rich history.

“The AUSC is very excited to form a new partnership with sportsmed,” he said.

“After our inaugural season in the FFSA State League 2, we are looking to consolidate our position in the competition and having sportsmed on board will definitely help us to improve.

“The partnership helps AUSC to become more professional with injury management and prevention to keep our players feeling at their best.”

During pre-season in February, we hosted an education seminar for AUSC representatives along with over 50 Adelaide City trainers and team managers to receive certification in basic injury assessment.

Dr Shahrokhi along with our Physiotherapists Glenn Dods and Joe McCallum, Podiatrist Kristian De Pasquale and Exercise Physiologist Matt Muir presented to the group covering topics such as principals of injury management, common lower lower limb injuries, foot conditions, boot selection, hydration, nutrition and the FIFA 11+ protocol.
